About Us

It all started a few years ago...

My husband Malcolm and I are both involved in showing our Poodles.

We started by having a mongrel called Fred, who was half Irish wolfound, half everything - you name it! He died an old man of 17 and we hunted and hunted for a dog who looked like him, but in vain.

Maldavale Maggie May (Maggie)

One day we saw an advertisement in the local paper offering Poodle puppies for sale and we brought Maldavale Maggie May (Maggie). After a few years we had acquired one or two other poodles, and learned how to wash, dry, clip and trim them. Incidentally the scissoring work is all done by Malcolm, who is very artistic - not like me - rather heavy handed and impatient! This took a long time to learn and we made many mistakes along the way, but watched the very best people at work on their poodles.

This is a photo of Maggie (Maldavale Maggie May) born 12th October 1993, and who died on 8th October 2003. She was the mother of our Angel, and many other beautiful babies. She had the most beautiful temperament and such a gentle disposition. Her mother was Maldavale Dark Angel and her father Maldavale Maldavale Son of Lord and her legend continues to live on and on and on.

Maldavale Angelique (Angelique)

Our first significant show was when Maldavale Angelique was just six months old. She was from our foundation bitch, Seabrook Barbarella at Maldavale, born on 14th April 1984. She was best puppy at an open show and the write up on her was terrific. This gave us hope to try her at a Championship Show. The following December, at B.U.B.A. where she qualified for Crufts - getting first out of 26 puppies. This was our first insight into serious showmanship. Here is a picture of me with our wonderful Angelique, who died at the age of 12.

She had a very successful show career. We bred from her when she was 3 years old, and from her first litter she produced our first famous champion which was owned by the Bedingfield Kennels and this was Champion Maldavale Foxy Lady at Bedingfield, who had many CCs and was best of breed at Crufts. Maldavale Angelique earned us top Dog World British Miniature Poodle breeders for almost three years, and top breeder with Our Dogs for one year.

Maldavale the Extinquisher (Duke)

After this Angelique was mated to our wonderful boy, Duke - (Maldavale The Extinguisher), who tragically died at the age of 8. They were a wonderful match, and produced Champion Maldavale Angelica at Trollstone, and then our beautiful Maldavale Dark Angel (Angel). Angelique also produced a Finnish and Estonian Champion, owned by Reima Asela of Seagram Poodles, Maldavale Mighty Seagram.

Duke was also the father of Champion Maldavale Madonna at Trollstone (Donna), the dam being Chasing Shadows at Maldavale. This was our Laura, who was bred to another Crufts Champion, Champion Shanandi Second Shadow. Laura produced another litter, and the ones we kept were (Maldavale Eternal Fire) (Hendrix) and (Maldavale Izabella)(Izzie)

Maldavale Eternal Fire (Hendrix)

Henddrix had many Best Puppy in Breed wins, including four at Championship Shows. He had many Best of Breed wins and one Best in Show at an open show under a well-known judge. Unfortunately he had to be rehomed and lived with a really nice man who lost his wife, This meant that Hendrix was given all the individual attention, which is what he really needed.

He wanted to be top dog here but there were too many fights between him and the other males, i.e. Calvin, Boysie and little William. I hear he and his new owner are very happy. I still miss Hendrix very much.

This is William

William was a Toy Poodle who died age 14 years old on 21st March 2003. He is sorely missed - we loved him so much. What a character. We reared him by hand. We will never forget him.

Maldavale Dark Angel (Angel)

Maldavale Dark Angel a beautiful Angelique daughter who did so well for us. She is the mother of Maldavale Maggie May, Maldavale Angela, who is the mother of Ch. Maldavale Wild Angel, of Maldavale Mister Motivator, who had a Reserve CC, her sister is the mother of Laura (Chasing Shadows at Maldavale) and another sister is Champion Angelica at Trollstone.

Maldavale the Arsonist (Lord)

Madavale Son of Lord (Boysie)

Then there is Boysie - mustn't forget Boysie.

Boysie did very well for us and was our top sire in 1997, he was a best puppy in show winner at the age of 10 months and where he also was reserve best in show too. He did a lot of winning and it was a great shame that he was not made up to a champion. His sister produced a beautiful champion.

Here is a pic of him with our first dog, Lord (Maldavale the Arsonist) and Mum, Duchess (The Duchess of Maldavale) when he was a tiny baby: Left to right - Duchess, Boysie and Lord. Duchess is out of Angeliques brother. So you see the connections!
